Day Out

Kathy O’Guinn, PDO Director

Kathy O'Guinn has been Highland's PDO Director since 1984. Kathy has an Associate Degree in Child Development from South Plains College, seminary experience, and Childhood Ministry Certification through the BGCT.

Kathy is a native of Lubbock and married to Coy O'Guinn, who is employed by Roadway Express. They have four children, Katie, Cody  Cozi, and Cory, and 10 grandchildren

The O'Guinn family have been members of and served the Lord at Highland for over 20  years.

Kathy loves the Lord and His children. She feels that the church should be present in each child's life and should serve to assist the parents in "training up a child in the way he/she should go".

Purpose

  • Parent's Day Out is a ministry of Highland Baptist Church designed to provide:
  • Children an opportunity to learn varied skills, discover their abilities and talents, exercise creativity and initiative, develop independence and positive self-worth, and develop character – all in a Christ-honored setting

  • Support the family and provide parents with quality care for their children during the crucial years of child rearing.

General Information

Standing reservations are required. Drop-ins will be taken only as space is available. There is limited enrollment in each classroom.

We ask parents not to bring children who are sick, for the protection of other children and workers. Sick children will not be accepted. If symptoms of illness are observed, the child will be sent home. Children are to be kept home when they show any of the following symptoms:

Label diaper bags, individual bottle and lids, lunches and all containers, blankets, coats and anything else your child may bring for the day with a permanent marker.

We suggest a child not bring a personal toy from home, except for naptime.

A lunch and drink should be brought from home, made up of finger food that can be served with little assistance (ages 12 months and up)

Please leave and pick up your child at the door. Do not go into the room unless necessary.

Please bring a blanket or mat for naptime. Beds will be assigned to babies.

L.I.S.D. calendar will be followed for holidays and weather closings.

When you drop your child off, please be sure to sign them in on the clipboard. If someone other than yourself will be picking your child up, please make a note on the sign-in sheet. Only those people on your authorization slip may pick-up your child. Their driver’s license will be checked.

Please dress your child in appropriate clothing for play. Label clothing and jackets. It is helpful to bring a change of clothing for younger children.

Children must be potty trained to be enrolled in the 3 & 4 year old class.

Please do not bring your child before 9 AM as this is teacher preparation time and no child can be accepted. Please pick up you child by 2:30 PM.

Be regular in attendance and please try to arrive by 9:30 AM each day. This fosters your child’s adjustment and he will learn more through consistency in the daily stories and activities.

Curriculum

The entire staff at Highland’s Mother’s Day Out is dedicated to providing a positive learning experience for preschoolers. We want to meet the spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, and social needs of each child in a warm and loving environment.

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor
    with God and man.
            Luke 3:52

We believe in the whole-child approach to learning. We have a well-planned curriculum, which provides various topics and emphasized themes. The classrooms are arranged in learning centers which include Home living, Blocks, Puzzles, Books, Nature, Music, and Art.

Children are able to make choices and participate in small group activities. The daily schedule includes both vigorous and quiet indoor activities. Outside play is also included when weather permits.

Bible stories and learning of Bible thoughts are taught daily in each class.
